Viconics RoHS Statement

Viconics is working with customers and suppliers to achieve compliance with WEEE and RoHS Directives where applicable.

The Directives

The WEEE Directive requires producers to pay for electronic and electrical equipment recycling and it covers a broad range of electronic and electrical products. The WEEE Directive aims to divert waste electronics from going into landfills and to encourage eco-design, reuse and recycling through producer responsibility. The WEEE Directive applies to standalone products. These are products that can function entirely on their own and are not a part of another system or piece of equipment.

The RoHS Directive bans specified hazardous substances in certain electronic and electrical equipment placed on the EU market after July 1, 2006. The RoHS Directive requires that any such new electrical and electronic equipment does not contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), (PBBs and PBDEs are often used as flame retardants in some plastics), unless exempt. It should be noted that products manufactured by Viconics are not subject to the RoHS Directive and the RoHS Directive expresses exemptions from its substance bans for some applications. Categories 8 Medical and 9 Measurement and Control Equipment including thermostats are exempt of the RoHS directive.

Our Position

As a leader in building automations Viconics regards the protection of the environment as a priority. As a certified ISO 14001 company we are committed to ensure that environmental consideration is part of our operations and daily life. We are currently capable of manufacturing lead free products at our facility and are continuously working with component suppliers to replace non-RoHS components with RoHS compliant components where applicable. The current version of the RoHS directive exempts products manufactured by Viconics destined to the European market, however it is Viconics’ objective to make specific product lines RoHS compliant.
Viconics Procurement, Quality and Engineering Project team are actively identifying suitable components and substances to replace those substances banned by the RoHS Directive. Close co-operation and collaboration with our sources of supply is essential to this process in order to qualify vendors and the materials they provide.
Viconics is implementing RoHS-related changes in order to make products compliant as necessary. We expect that there will be ongoing communications about our progress and any new processes we may introduce to support RoHS Directive implementation or other environmental enhancements we may make to our products.
